Face to face financial support being increased across Nottingham by a debt help charity
More than a quarter of people in Nottingham are worried about money every day according to a survey
A debt help charity in the east midlands have found a quarter of people in Nottingham worry about money every day.
Christians Against Poverty, has highlighted that families across Nottingham and the East Midlands are facing significant challenges, with many experiencing the harsh realities of poverty.
A national poll conducted for the charity has revealed that over a quarter of residents suffer daily anxiety about their finances.
Lorraine Papionannou, the East Midlands Regional Director, is emphasising the urgent need for action:
“Nottingham is ranked the eleventh most deprived local authority in England, with more than one in five adults (22%) identified as needing debt advice. This level of deprivation means many households are struggling daily, facing empty fridges, cold homes and often without access to local, face-to-face support.
“While online and phone-based assistance exists, it often falls short for those navigating complex financial challenges who desperately need direct, local help. Importantly, our polling showed that almost a third (30%) of people across the East Midlands say that they would find in-person financial advice helpful, showing a real need for face-to-face support.
"Christians Against Poverty already supports families in local communities across the region, working in partnership with local churches to provide debt advice, budgeting courses and job clubs. Our focus is now on working together in Nottingham to significantly increase local support and practical help for those struggling with poverty in the community.
"The stories we hear from local families are heart-breaking. Every day we see people who are trapped in poverty, often feeling alone and hopeless. Even though online tools can help, many people with personal and complex financial struggles really benefit from having a local, friendly face to sit down with. We believe there is an incredible opportunity for local churches to work together, supported by Christians Against Poverty's expert team of professional Debt Advisors, to offer that lifeline to the community in Nottingham."
Christians Against Poverty exists to work with local churches and community groups across towns and cities, and is focused on tackling the pressing poverty crisis in those communities.
