Extra patrols in East Leicester parks this weekend
It follows a large fight at Rushey Fields Recreation Ground on Sunday
Police will be carrying out extra patrols in East Leicester this weekend to tackle anti-social behaviour in public parks.
It follows a big fight at the Rushey Fields Recreation Ground on Sunday, involving around 30 men reportedly fighting with weapons including cricket bats.
Detectives have arrested nine people in connection with the incident, and all of those have been given conditional bail which prevents them from going to the Recreation Ground. Police are still appealing for information and mobile phone or dashcam footage.
The force says extra patrols will be in place over the weekend to make sure local parks remain safe spaces.
Chief Superintendent Jonny Starbuck said: "We take these matters seriously and how this can impact local communities. As a result, we have put in place extra patrols in the local parks and over the weekend, to ensure that any anti-social behaviour is dealt with effectively. This may mean that officers disperse groups or seize alcohol from people in the parks.
"It is our aim to make sure the community can use the parks safely.
"Our investigating team are continuing to gather information in relation to the incident and continue to appeal to the public for help. If anyone you know saw the incident or has any information, please do encourage them to contact us. We are still looking for footage of the incident, including CCTV, phone recordings, dashcam footage or video doorbell footage."
