Everton and Nottingham Forest charged with breaking FA rules
They could both now face points deductions
Everton and Nottingham Forest have been referred to an independent commission over alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules, the clubs have confirmed.
The clubs issued statements acknowledging the referrals, which relate to alleged breaches of the league's profitability and sustainability rules (PSR). If the breaches are proven, they face the threat of points deductions.
A statement from the Reds says:
"Nottingham Forest acknowledges the statement from the Premier League confirming that the club has today been charged with a breach of the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
The club intends to continue to cooperate fully with the Premier League on this matter and are confident of a speedy and fair resolution."
The clubs have 14 days to submit their formal answers to the complaints.
The Premier League has yet to make any official announcement on the matter.
Everton were hit with a 10-point deduction in November for an earlier PSR breach, after being referred to a commission in March last year. The club are appealing against that sanction.
