A radiologist at Derby Hospital and his family are among those who have died in the Air India crash.

242 people - consisting 230 passengers and 12 crew - were aboard the London Gatwick-bound flight from Ahmedabad when it came down shortly after take-off yesterday morning (12 June).

Dr Prateek Joshi, his wife, and their three children all died in the incident.

The Derby Hindu Temple paid tribute to Dr Joshi and his family. In a statement on Facebook, it said: "It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that Dr. Prateek Joshi and his family were on board the Air India flight that tragically crashed en route from Ahmedabad to London.

"Dr. Joshi a radiologist at Royal Derby Hospital, who lived in Derby were devotees of our Mandir and supported us through their sincere service and dedication.

"We pray to Lord Shiva to grant eternal peace to the departed souls and to give strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense loss."

One man from Leicester is the sole survivor and is being treated for his injuries in hospital. Vishwash Kumar Ramesh said: "Everything happened in front of my eyes. I still can't believe, myself, how I came out alive.

"For a little while, I thought I was going to die. But after a little while, I opened my eyes and realised: I'm alive."

"It landed on the ground, floor-side, of the hostel. And as soon as the door broke, I could see it was open for me and I've got my chance to get out."
