Police went to investigate a burglary and found 200 cannabis plants instead
A house call in Nottingham about a potential burglary resulted in police uncovering a household cannabis farm.
Nottinghamshire Police were called to Radford Road in Hyson Green, at around 2am on Friday (30 June), after receiving reports someone was trying to break into a house.
Officers heard the sound of fans coming from inside the house and spotted an extension cord running up through a window.
Suspecting there could be cannabis inside the house, police entered the property and found the electricity meter had been tampered with .
After searching the property, around 200 cannabis plants were found growing across nine different rooms inside the neighbouring houses.
Chief Inspector Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “After being called to reports of a potential burglary, our officers reacted to the situation that presented itself when they arrived at the scene.
“They then showed great initiative in following up suspicions of potential drug activity, which ultimately led to us uncovering a cannabis grow containing around 200 plants.
“These types of grows bring nothing but trouble and also put people living nearby at risk, so we are pleased to have been able to shut this cannabis farm down."
Police are asking anyone who has any information to call on 101, quoting incident 51 of 30 June 2023.
