The Managing Director of Alstom UK & Ireland says the company has 'run out of time', following 10 months of discussions about the future of its site in Derby.

Production lines have stopped at the Litchurch Lane site, with around 1300 jobs at risk.

Nick Crossfield, Managing Director of Alstom UK & Ireland: "We have worked constructively with the Government on securing a sustainable future for Derby Litchurch Lane, but after ten months of discussions we have run out of time, and the production lines have stopped.

"We will now consult with our staff, with trades unions and with our UK supply chain to provide as much certainty as we can."

Earlier in the day, the Shadow Transport Minister Louise Haigh PM met with management and workers in Derby amid calls for the Government to support the industry.
