Youth Beatz 2023 is off to a fun filled start. Tens of thousands of festival goers began arriving at Park Farm in Dumfries at 12 O’clock, ready to get stuck into the hustle and bustle.
Day one of the festival sees acts including Joel Corry, HRVY, and B*Witched take to the main stage.
On stage two it’s the likes of Shaunie Craig, Becca Starr and Beat Waves entertaining crowds, but that’s not all, with a range of local performers including dance and cheerleading acts taking to stage three.
To go along with the packed music schedule, there is a designated Quiet Area and Sensory Space for those who might need a break from the action.
Ticket holders also have a range of stalls and activities to keep them occupied.
Educational resources are also available
Returning to the festival this year is ‘The Toon’, an immersive youth drama production which looks to provide young people with information on issues that may affect them. The educational experience is designed and delivered by local youngsters, and requires separate booking at the Toon Box Office.
New to Youth Beatz this year is ‘The Realm’ – a 180m inflatable obstacle course, featuring challenges such as slides, tunnels and more. The course is open to young people up to 16 years of age, with separate height restrictions.
In addition to a fun filled couple of days, the festival is dedicated to supporting skill development, through a range of volunteering opportunities.
Vice-Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Communities Committee, Councillor Jackie McCamon said: “Youth Beatz has helped give young people a real-life taste of working in events management, performing through the immersive youth led drama production The Toon and the opportunity to undertake their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award through the festival.”
Also present is the Youth Information Marketplace, featuring 17 organisations from across Dumfries and Galloway, promoting their services for young people.
Now in its thirteenth year, the award-winning youth event promises a safe environment, and is an alcohol free zone. Police officers are working closely with event staff to ensure no one in possession or under the influence of alcohol enters the event.
