Teenager seriously injured in hospital after three-vehicle crash

The collision involving a lorry and another car happened near Newton Stewart on Wednesday

A young woman is in a serious condition in hospital after a crash involving a lorry near Newton Stewart.

The 17-year-old was airlifted to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth following the three-vehicle collision on the B7079 road, at its junction with the A712 Newton Stewart to New Galloway Road around 5pm on Wednesday.

Her 15-year-old passenger was discharged from hospital without injury and occupants in the other vehicles were unhurt.

The road was closed for around four hours to allow for an investigation at the scene.

Constable Liza Murdoch, of the Dumfries & Galloway police, said: “Enquiries into the cause of this crash are ongoing.

“I would urge anyone with information, or who may have dashcam footage, to get touch."
