Dumfries & Galloway Schools to close for three days due to strike action
The Council have confirmed local authority schools will shut for three days starting tomorrow
A three day closure for all local authority schools in Dumfries & Galloway has been confirmed due to industrial strike action, starting tomorrow the 26th of September until Thursday the 28th.
Following initial plans to consider each school on an individual basis, the Council say ‘ongoing and updated information’ has led to the recent decision.
It’s understood the industrial action affects a wide range of school workers including learning assistants, administration staff, janitors, and cleaners, who are all essential to standard school operations.
In a statement, the Council said:
“Following ongoing and updated information on the availability of staff, the decision has been made to close all local authority schools and local authority Early Learning Centre (ELC) settings on Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 September, inclusive.
“All school and ELC facilities that Dumfries and Galloway Council operates will be closed on these three days, due to industrial action taking place.
“Remote learning will be in place wherever possible, and we will continue to be in dialogue with parents, carers and learners if the situation changes.
“We have updated our website with information relating to the industrial action - https://www.dumgal.gov.uk/article/26984/School-Closures-due-to-Industrial-Action-Tuesday-26-to-Thursday-28-September”
A strike rally is expected to take place outside North West Campus in Dumfries from noon tomorrow.
