The two-week countdown is on for the Stranraer Oyster Festival and tickets have sold fast for what organisers are promising will be their best show yet.

This ever-popular three-day event attracts around 20,000 people annually which sees an economic boost to the town but the community organisation behind the festival – Stranraer Development Trust - is predicting around 25,000 guests this year.

Chair Romanno Petrucci says they are excited about the programme that they have in store.

Culinary experts will be attending over the weekend doing live cooking demonstrations and participating in the Scottish Oyster Shucking Championship.

Petrucci also raises a point about some visitors still needing to find accommodation as most of the hotels are already fully booked.

The group has taken to social media requesting anyone with availability to leave a message in the comments where guests can enquire.

“People are looking more specifically for rooms, but even campsites would be suitable. Just anywhere where people can put their heads down at the end of the day.”

Anyone in or near Stranraer is being asked to comment on the Facebook post.
