The RSAC Scottish Car Rally is back for another year, and this time it’s coming to Dalbeattie.

Relocating to a new home, the event will see the addition of some new sections, with stages in Dalbeattie and Kinharvie forests added to the repertoire. It’s understood Ae Forest will still feature heavily in the event.

This year also brings with it a designated car service area, courtesy of local business Jas P Wilson.

Andrew Pemberton, Chairman of the RSAC, is glad to see them on board: “It’s such a good company, they’ve been rallying for a long time as well. They understand what we need.”

Jas P is also providing an event HQ, but their involvement doesn’t stop there. Iain Wilson, one of the company directors is set to take part in the competition, with co driver Chris Williams by his side.

For some, it’s a family affair

With plenty of local competitors, this year sees Scott Gourlay making his gravel debut.

Taking after his rally driving Dad, he says: “I used to co-drive next to him. It’s just amazing to follow in his footsteps, and for him to be there to support me.”

Organisers say they're pleased to be continuing the longstanding relationship between the rally and Dumfries & Galloway council.

With next weekend marking 26 years of support, it’s understood to be the longest running partnership between a rally and local authority anywhere in Britain.

Ensuring the action is brought right into the heart of the Dalbeattie, there will be a regroup to split the rally at around midday in the centre of town.

Classic motorsport celebrations are to be expected

Fans will also have the chance to get up close and personal to the cars and crews at the end of the day, when a traditional champagne spray will take place.

Clerk of the Course Jonathan Lord says: “We welcome spectators to come out and see what’s going on.

"I do have to say please obey the instructions of the marshals, they are there for your safety.

"We’re very aware of the need for a safe and enjoyable day for everybody. If they ask you to move, or to go to a better location, please make sure you comply with all their instructions.”

Spectators can watch from designated zones for the Dalbeattie and Ae stages. No access is permitted to watch in Kinharvie.

Fans can also head along to Jas P Wilson Forest Machines from 3pm until 8pm on Friday the 21st of July, to watch servicing and scrutineering take place from a specified bay.

More information for spectators is available on the RSAC website.
