Local MSP Colin Smyth has warned that people from Crocketford and Springholm may be waiting a while longer to see a bypass installed on the A75.

It's hoped the effort will help alleviate heavy volumes of traffic passing through both villages.

While the need for a bypass is recognised for the Scottish Government, Mr Smyth says details are long overdue, as the wait for a delivery plan continues.

Mr Smyth says these are the only two communities forced to put up with extreme traffic from the recognised ‘euro route’ from the ferry port at Cairnryan, which sees high numbers of Heavy Goods Vehicles transporting products.

Referring to the route as the ‘gateway for Scottish business to Northern Ireland’ – Colin says the knock on benefits of road improvement must be recognised.

Speaking on the matter, Colin Smyth said: “Communities simply won’t believe they will get any respite until we see a meaningful timescale for when work on projects are going to be started.

“The fact the government keeps stalling raises fears they are either not serious about delivering improvements, or they are kicking those plans even further into the long grass.”
