Locals come up with creative response to pothole plagued roads
They want as many people as possible to get involved to help bring attention to the issue

Locals from a small rural village are growing tired of potholes plaguing their roads, and have come up with a creative idea they hope will bring about action.
Community Councillors from Crossmichael have implemented a ‘pothole photography’ competition, which will run until the end of August.
Hoping the effort will bring the problem to the attention, the images will be later compiled in a report.
Jane McCarthy is a Crossmichael community councillor:
“We’re a small community, and like small community and towns we are beleaguered with potholes that cars drive through and get their wheels get burst, and that cyclists ride through and sometimes fall over.
“And, we’re not getting much traction in terms of getting them repaired, so someone came up with a bright idea that we could actually make this a bit of fun.
“Hence coming up with the idea of a competition, that people would actually take photographs, and they’d be funny photographs.”
“We’ll judge it at our community council meeting on the 13th of September.”
Crossmichael is situated on the east side of Loch Ken, just 4 miles from Castle Douglas, and sees a considerable amount of farm traffic passing through the village, something Jane says isn’t helping the problem:
“We’ve got a big problem with lorries coming through the village in the middle of the night, waking people up. What we’re trying to press for is a 20 mile an hour limit on either side of the village.”
Organisers hope the competition could be the start of some serious action, and are hoping for a possible curfew in addition to a new speed limit, to stop heavy farm traffic and haulage disturbing locals throughout the night.
Anyone who spots a pothole in the area has until the end of the month to snap a fun image, which can be sent to janecraigenally@hotmail.com or to the Crossmichael Community Council Facebook page.
Prizes including vouchers to local hospitality venues will be up for grabs.
