Police are clamping down on illegal use of dirt bikes
They have plain clothes patrols keeping an eye out.
Police are clamping down on the illegal use of motorcycles in the Annan area and have already charged four youths.
Over the past month, concerned members of the public have expressed concerns about people riding small motocross and electric bikes at high speeds and off-road without wearing any protective gear.
They have often been seen wearing face coverings.
PC Stephen Glendinning confirmed at the Annan Community Council on Monday evening said, “There’s been quite an increase in calls in regards to youths on motorcycles. Within the last few days, a few of them have been charged. Work is still ongoing.
“We are having to be careful going after them as well as we are only covered so much. We have got to be careful that we don’t cause them to collide with someone.”
He added that some culprits have had their bikes seized and are being “watched closely” by their plain clothes patrols.
He added that the issue was region-wide, adding: “It’s not just happening here, it’s happening all over. Dumfries is getting it, there’s been incidents in Lockerbie and in Sanquhar.
“It’s something that is quite a hot topic at the moment, and it’s something we are continuing to look at.”
