The trial of a man accused of murdering a dad from Annan has heard the death was 'premeditated'

Jack Crawley - from Sheehan Crescent in Carlisle, denies murdering Paul Taylor nearly a year ago.

He has though admitted manslaughter.

The remains of the 56-year-old were found in Finglandrigg Wood, off the B5307 outside Carlisle, around seven months from when he was last seen.

Yesterday the prosecution opened their case, stating Paul Taylor went out on night and never came home.

He didn’t show up for work and from the 18th of October 2023 police could find 'no evidence he was alive'.

The prosecution are arguing Crawley met up with Paul on the night of his death with 'murder on his mind'.

They say that he’d bought 'charcoal and lighters which would later be used in an attempt to burn his body'.

The trial continues today - where we're expecting to hear from the defence.

Another man has also gone on trial, on suspicion of assisting an offender.
