Man fighting for life and dog killed after crash on A75 near Stranraer
A car, an HGV and a tractor all collided near Dunragit on Wednesday evening
A 26-year-old man is fighting for life in hospital after a three vehicle crash in Dumfries and Galloway.
One other man was taken to hospital as a precaution and a dog was killed, when a Scania R580 HGV, a Claas 420 Arion tractor with a trailer and a grey Toyota Rav 4 car collided on the A75 near Dunragit at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.
The man driving the Toyota was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where staff describe his injuries as life-threatening.
One of four dogs in the Toyota died at the scene and the three others have been checked by a vet and taken to kennels.
The driver of the Scania, a 39-year-old man, was taken to Galloway Community Hospital as a precaution and later released.
The driver of the tractor, a 20-year-old man, was not injured.
The road was closed for around 12 hours and re-opened around 6.20am on Thursday.
Road policing officers are now appealing for information about what caused the crash.
Sergeant Neil Moffat said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.
“If you were in the area at the time and have information, including dash-cam, that could assist with our investigation then please make contact with us.”
