A group of youths have been charged and reported for setting off illegal fireworks in Annan.

Police received numerous complaints from residents.

Officers in Annan are stepping up efforts to tackle the illegal use of fireworks in the run up to bonfire night.

Community Policing Inspector Amy Ritchie said: "Not only is this behaviour illegal and very dangerous, it can be distressing for other members of the community and we will continue to target, identify and report those who break these laws, with increased patrols by dedicated officers over the coming weeks."

Ritchie is reminding communities it is illegal to set off fireworks in public places, including streets and parks.

With only a few exceptions, it is against the law to light any fireworks before 6pm and after 11pm.
