Attention all thrift shop lovers - you better make your way to Dumfries because it has just been titled Scotland's best town for second-hand shopping.

From its wide variety of vintage stores and charity shops along the high street, it's been deemed a “thrifter’s paradise”, according to a recent study.

On top of that, it has also been ranked second best in the UK with Ballymena, Northern Ireland taking the lead.

Colin Callander-Bone, social enterprise manager at the SHAX charity on Dumfries High Street welcomes this news:

“Most of the time, people are shopping because they remember their childhoods and see things that instantly attract good memories, and they want to hold onto that. Everyone who comes into SHAX has a good story to tell us and that’s the beauty of thrift shopping.

“I think this new title will attract a lot more people to Dumfries because, at the end of the day, Castle Douglas has got the food town, Stranraer has the Oyster Festival and Wigtown has the Book Festival.

“Every town wants a moniker, that’s what they want to be known by and if it’s by second-hand selling, then that’s all for the good of Dumfries because it just goes to show that we are a vibrant centre. People do want to go into our town and open a business and that’s what we cater for and that’s what Dumfries will be known for.”
