'Market of Possibility' will allow people to share future visions for Dumfries
The project encourages visitors to think creatively about the town
A new project is set to take over a former retail unit in the Loreburne Centre in Dumfries, where visitors can get creative and share their visions for the future of the town.
The Stove Network’s ‘Market of Possibility’ will offer a new and interactive space, open throughout July & August in collaboration with Dumfries Partnership Action Group.
Locals, visitors, and tourists will all be invited in free of charge to experience different grassroots campaigns, projects, and initiatives, all led by local people.
A chance to ignite imagination
Martin O’Neill, Artistic Director at The Stove Network says: “The Market of Possibility is inspired by all the community-led initiatives The Stove has supported through our Open Hoose project over the last two years, as well as providing a platform for the innovative work happening with other town centre enterprises and initiatives.
“Part studio, part playground, part laboratory, the space will combine imagination and play in an immersive and thought-provoking space designed to ignite new ideas and nurture ambitions, ideas, and possibilities for the future of our town."
Tony Fitzpatrick, a spokesperson of Dumfries Partnership Action Group says: “Dumfries Partnership Action Group are so pleased to be engaging with The Stove Network on this project.
"Over the period of community engagement that led to the ‘Dynamically Different Dumfries Action Plan’ it was clear that people and businesses were imagining a different kind of town centre looking to the future.
“This project, thanks to Big Lottery funding and our collaboration with The Stove Network, will help us get right behind just what that new town centre will look like.”
The new project is all about celebrating local innovation and creativity and will feature a range of creative workshops and interactive installations exhibits, in partnership with some of the town’s most popular creative community groups.
The Market of Possibility will open on the 13th of July and will run until the end of August 2023.
