93 year old killed in car crash near Dumfries identified

The casualty was taken to Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary where he later died

A 93 year old man has died following a car crash on the A710 close to Dumfries.

The casualty has now been identified as William Barbour, from Dumfries.

Police responded to the incident just before midday on Thursday the 5th of October.

The casualty was taken to Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary by ambulance, where he died a short time later.

It’s understood the crash was a single car incident, involving a black Land Rover Discovery.

Sergeant Neil Moffat from Road Policing said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

“We believe the black Land Rover Discover Sport was travelling northbound on the A710 at the time and are appealing for any motorists, particularly with dash-cams, who were on the road and may have seen the vehicle involved.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1371 of Thursday, 5 October, 2023.”
