Police have revealed that they have traced a driver who could have vital clues over a road crash that’s left a Dumfries & Galloway footballer critically ill in hospital.

Dean Watson, 24, was struck by a black Mitsubishi L200 near Ecclefechan at about 1.30 in the morning on October 22 and it has been confirmed that a serving police officer was behind the wheel

The former Queen of the South player, now with Dalbeattie Star, remains in hospital where his condition is described as "critical but stable".

Officers had issued an appeal to find a driver who was on the B7076 just moments before Dean was knocked over.

That person has been traced and the police are thanking the public for their help.
