Drink driver jailed over crash that killed pensioner near Barnbarroch
Martin Jolly had previous driving convictions and had only recently regained his driving license
A drink driver from Newton Stewart has been jailed for nearly 11 years, after causing the death of an elderly woman near Barnbarroch in 2019.
27-year-old Martin Jolly has previous driving convictions, and had only had his license back for months before the night of the accident.
It’s understood Jolly lost control of his car on a bend, and collided with another vehicle driven by Ramsay McCallum, 83, in which his wife Helen was a passenger.
Mrs McCallum, aged 82 was killed in the crash. Her husband was left injured, but survived.
Martin Jolly was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on the 10th of October, after an earlier guilty plea.
It’s understood he had been drinking beer with a friend on the beach before getting behind the wheel of his Vauxhall Astra.
He pleaded guilty in August to a charge of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.
