Public feedback invited on plans for Castle Douglas roads
Members of the public are being encouraged to give constructive input to help shape solutions
Castle Douglas locals are being encouraged to share their thoughts on the future of their roads, in line with a vision for increased active travel.
The ongoing discussion, facilitated by consultancy firm Stantec, is hoping to determine resident wants and needs regarding an area of the town including King Street, and the main roundabout at Market Hill.
It’s hoped this consultation will help find a solution to ease congestion and feed into a wider active travel plan to get more people walking and cycling, while also making routes accessible for wheelchairs and buggies.
Stantec are currently seeking feedback on a preliminary concept, which will be modified following input from locals.
A drop in session on the 24th of August gave attendees the chance to write their thoughts directly on a map showcasing one potential solution.
Local attitudes are being taken on board
Results from a survey which took place earlier this Summer were also presented to visitors.
Speaking on the importance of ongoing consolation, Stantec representative Georgia said: “People come in and see what other people have said. They might see other peoples’ points of view and then, as you can see, people start debating.
"People have different needs, and they’re important to them. It’s important to get that across.”
For those not able to make it along, an additional survey is now available online, and will remain open until the end of the month.
