A 55-year-old man has been sentenced to 16 years for sexual abuse offences in the Dumfries area over 17 years.

Andrew Jackson from Canonbie received his sentence at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, 17 June 2025.

His offending happened from 2002 to 2019 – there were five victims, two of whom were children at the time.

In July 2022, Jackson was arrested and was found guilty in April this year.

Detective Inspector Graeme Robertson from the Public Protection Unit at Dumfries: “It doesn't matter how long ago a crime was committed, we will use every available resource to ensure that those responsible are arrested and charged. Jackson is now behind bars, no longer able to inflict harm on anyone else.

"We know it is incredibly difficult for victims to come forward and relive the abuse they have suffered, and I want to thank them for speaking with us. I hope this outcome helps them in some way as they continue to move forward with their lives."
