Body found at Cairnryan confirmed as missing pensioner from Ireland

The fatality is being described as not suspicious

The body of a man found in the water at the port of Cairnryan on the 1st of July has been identified as missing pensioner Daniel McLaughlin.

The 74 year old had been reported missing from his home in Quigley’s Point, Donegal, well over 100 miles away in Ireland.

Mr McLaughlin's death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Following extensive enquiries, the body of the man which was discovered in the water at the port of Cairnryan on Saturday, 1 July, 2023, can now be identified as Daniel McLaughlin (74) who had been reported missing from Ireland.

"His family are aware and there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
