EXC: Up to 100 Amey jobs at risk across south west Scotland, union warns
The firm has begun consultation for redundancies
Up to 100 road maintenance workers in south-west Scotland face the risk of redundancy, Unite the Union has warned.
Workers were informed by contractor, Amey, that job losses could be imminent.
The roles are part of a government-funded contract to maintain key roads across Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire – work that is directly supported by the Scottish Government through Transport Scotland.
Unite’s industrial officer David McGurk said the union is seeking urgent intervention from ministers to prevent the job cuts.
“These are highly skilled workers helping keep Scotland’s infrastructure safe and reliable,” he said.
“We’re calling on the Scottish Government to step in and review the contracts awarded to Amey. Immediate action is needed to save these jobs.”
The union has formally contacted Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure, Fiona Hyslop, asking her to explore what can be done to protect the workers’ futures.
Amey has been contacted for a response, but not yet commented.
