Drivers were sent on a 50 mile diversion as a fire closed the main trunk road linking Dumfries and Ayrshire for around 12 hours overnight.
Fire crews were called out at 8.40pm on Thursday 23rd March to a derelict building in Pathhead, near New Cumnock.
Scottish Fire and Rescue were still at the scene the following morning and the A76 was been closed in both directions before being re-opened around 12 hours later.
There are no reports of anyone being hurt in the blaze.
Long diversion route
Drivers who were needing to use the A76 as a through route were told to take a diversion which was around 50 miles long.
From the south, it began at Drumlanrig, directing motorists to use the A702 to towards the M74 motorway at Abington Services, and then using the A70 to reach Cumnock.
