YMCA Bournemouth launches new fitness club in Poole
YMCA Bournemouth have taken over Fitness First’s leisure centre in Fleetsbridge
A new fitness club has officially opened in Fleetsbridge, Poole replacing the old Fitness First leisure centre.
YMCA Bournemouth occupied the unit and worked with the local community to create ‘Bayside Fitness Club’.
Gareth Sherwood, CEO of YMCA Bournemouth said: “YMCA is committed to help this community flourish and we’re grateful for all the support we’ve received so far.”
A month has passed since Fitness First decided to permanently close its doors with reports saying it was no longer “commercially viable” to operate.
The gym was one of 35 Fitness First sites in the UK and under their ownership for more than 15 years.
But due to fewer members using the facility post-pandemic and rise in membership losses they decided to close their doors.
Outraged members received the following message: “After careful consideration and evaluation of the current circumstances, we regret to inform you that Fitness First Poole will be permanently closing its doors on August 31.
“The decision has not been made lightly, and we understand the impact it will have on our dedicated members like you.”
Now, YMCA Bournemouth promise to make the club thrive once again and create a community-first approach to health and wellbeing.
Bayside Fitness Club opens Monday through to Saturday.
