We've been told part of Wyke Road in Weymouth is expected to remain closed for the next few days.

SGN are working to repair a gas leak on the Rodwell Trail.

Chloe Boyce, spokesperson for gas distribution company SGN told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

" Our engineers are currently working to investigate and repair an escape on a medium pressure gas main on the Rodwell Trail in Weymouth. To ensure everyone’s safety, Wyke Road is closed in both directions at this location.

" We expect the repair could take several days to complete, during which time the road closure will need to remain in place. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience this may be causing and would like to thank motorists and pedestrians for their patience."

The problem first came to light yesterday afternoon when Dorset Police were called to hep with a road closure.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

"We received a request from a gas company at 3.28pm for assistance with road closures at Boot Hill in Weymouth as it responded to reports of a gas leak in the area.

"Officers have attended and the road has been closed."
