WW2 mortar shell found near a Dorset pitch and putt

The bomb squad were called out to a Pitch and Putt in Swanage over the weekend.

Its after a member of the public discovered a mortar round left over from the Second World War.

A cordoned was put in place while the army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team dealt with the unexpected find.

A spokesman for Purbeck Police said:

"An eventful night in Swanage, we were called to an incident at the pitch and putt on Victoria Avenue where a member of the public discovered a WW2 3-inch mortar round.

"The area was cordoned off and the army EOD team tasked. Upon their arrival the mortar round was inspected and later removed for safe disposal."
