Woman comes forward after alleged serious assault in Gillingham

An 18-year-old woman has been interviewed by police in connection with a serious assault in North Dorset

A woman has come forward and been interviewed by police in connection with an alleged serious assault in Gillingham.

It was reported that between 11.30pm on Friday 8 October and 12.30am on Saturday 9 October 2021 a serious assault took place in an alleyway near to the Red Lion pub on the High Street.

Around 10 men and women, believed to be aged between 18 and 21 years old, were reportedly involved in the assault on two men.

One of the victims – a man aged in his 30s and from Bristol – sustained two spinal fractures and a serious injury to his face. His friend, also from Bristol, sustained minor injuries.

CCTV appeal

Following a CCTV appeal, an 18-year-old woman from Shaftesbury has come forward in connection with the incident and has been interviewed by detectives. She has been released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out.

Detectives are still appealing for anyone with information relating to the incident to come forward.
