Walking through a Dorchester 'window wonderland'
A new idea is coming to the county town this Christmas.
A window wonderland event could brighten up Dorchester this winter.
Residents and business will be encouraged to light up their windows around the theme “window to a brighter future.”
Dorchester town councillors have given their backing to the proposal and have agreed funding of up to £150 to help the event get off the ground.
Organiser Kathy O’Borne from Cornwall Road says window displays could include anything from artfully arranged household objects to simple designs and silhouettes.
The event had previously been run on Portland and in other towns across the UK where it encourages people to get out and walk around the area in a Covid-safe way, adding a bit of cheers to dark winter evenings.
The date for the Dorchester event has been provisionally set to take place from February 19th until 21st between 6.30pm and 9.30pm each evening, registration and further information is expected to be available next month.
Cllr Tony Lyall welcomed the idea when it was discussed at a town council management meeting this week: “It has been going on in other areas for ages and it brings people of all ages together…there is little cost and it’s a marvellous thing which really does work,” he said.
Support came from fellow councillor Ralph Ricardo: “For a few pounds it can give the people of Dorchester a feel good factor…if we can jump on the bandwagon, why not?”
