Wimborne Minster Pancake Race goes digital
How many pancakes can you flip in 30 seconds?
Wimborne Minster’s annual pancake race around the 1000+-year-old church can’t take place in person this year.
Instead, it’s going to be happening online where contestants will have 30 seconds to flip a pancake as many times as they can.
The tradition’s been held for around 30 years according to church leaders. It’s now adapting for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rector of the Minster, the Revd Canon Andrew Rowland, said:
"We've lost so much haven't we? This is a little bit of excitement to brighten up our day.
"It's a way of keeping the condition going so we're focussing on tomorrow now, aren't we, but trying to make today as good as it can be."
"Here's a golden opportunity for every armchair sportsperson to put flour and water together and flip into history."
The virtual competition is being organised and sponsored by Wimborne BID on behalf of the Minster Church.
Chairman of Wimborne BID, Martin Pate, said:
"The pancake race is a huge part of the town and something that brings the whole community together. We didn't want to lose that."
There are three categories for the prize draw: Under 16s, over 16s and businesses. Prizes will be donated from local businesses, Wimborne MinsterTown Council and Wimborne BID.
To enter simply record yourself or someone in your household or bubble tossing a pancake for thirty seconds. Post the video to Facebook, making sure that the post is marked public so that we can view it.
To enter the prize draw you must tag in @wimbornebBID and use the hashtag #MinsterPancakes. Hear all the latest news from across the UK on the hour, every hour, on Greatest Hits Radio on DAB, smartspeaker, at greatesthitsradio.co.uk, and on the Rayo app.
