Weymouth shopworker assaulted by suspected thief

It happened outside the Food Warehouse in Jubilee Close

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, after a member of staff was assaulted outside a shop in Weymouth.

It happened at around 10.30am on Thursday 30th January, after a man entered Food Warehouse in Jubilee Close and left the shop without paying for some items.

The staff member followed the man outside, close to Matalan and Tapi Carpets, when the offender then punched the victim in the face.

A suspect is described as:

  • White man
  • Wearing a beige or light brown hat
  • Headphones over the top
  • Blue coat
  • Carrying a black rucksack

PC Nick May, of Weymouth police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and now believe there may have been people in the area who saw what happened.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed the assault, or may have captured any relevant dashcam footage while travelling in the car park, to please come forward.

“Also, I am keen to hear from anyone who may have information about the identity of the suspect.”
