Weymouth won't be having its annual bonfire night and fireworks display.

The town council has made the decision to cancel the event on the seafront.

It's due to coronavirus and concerns over public safety.

Cllr Graham Winter, Mayor of Weymouth Town Council, said:

"It is with great sadness that we have had to make the decision to cancel this year's Guy Fawkes event on the evening of the 5th of November.

"This annual event is hugely popular with local families and visitors, with the beach bonfire, fireworks, fun fair, and Guy Fawkes competition creating one of the year's great community events."

"We look forward to bringing this event, along with many other of Weymouth's favourite events and festivals, back bigger and better next year."
