Eleven crab apple trees have been planted across Weymouth, to mark His Majesty King Charles III's coronation.

The town's Mayor, Cllr Ann Weaving, has donated the trees to ten local schools.

A rabbit guard, stakes and watering systems have also been given to the schools to help them maintain the trees.

Bincombe Primary has received one of the King's Coronation trees

In the next six months, a plaque will also be put up alongside each of the trees.

The schools involved are:

  • Bincombe Valley
  • Westfield Arts College
  • St Andrews
  • St Johns
  • Wey Valley
  • Radipole
  • Southill
  • St Augustine’s
  • Holy Trinity
  • Wyke Regis Infant & Juniors - which received two trees
Westfield has also got a tree to plant in their grounds

Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Ann Weaving said:

“I was delighted to present the Crab Apple trees which have been planted ahead of the King’s Coronation. What a wonderful idea!

“These trees will grow with the children, and future generations to come, so I was delighted to be involved in this project which Weymouth Town Council organised.”

Sean Kretz from Westfield Arts College added:

“This is a lovely way to mark this moment in history and something that pupils, staff and our school community can enjoy for many years to come.”
