The Weymouth High Street Post Office is to getting a major refurbishment and a new postmaster.

The St Thomas Street branch will close at 5.30pm this afternoon (26 May) and is due to reopen on Thursday 10th June at 1pm.

The whole branch is being fully refurbished and there will be new signage outside. The location of the Post Office counters inside will also change.

There will be five Post Office counters - two full-screened, two open-plan and a Post Office counter alongside the retail counter.

During the refit alternative branches include:

Trinity Street Post Office, 8 Trinity Street, Weymouth, DT4 8TW

Abbotsbury Road Post Office, 173 Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth, DT4 0LX

An experienced Postmaster will also take up a permanent position, replacing the temporary one that has been in place since 2019.

Liam Searle comes from a very experienced Post Office family. His Dad, Mum and Grandmother have all worked in Post Offices and his Dad, Michael Searle, was Postmaster at Swanage before him.

He prides himself on great customer satisfaction, resulting in increased sales.

Postmaster Liam Searle said:

"This will be a major refurbishment of the shop, so it looks modern, bright and professional. The staff are very experienced.

"They are very excited about having a permanent Postmaster again. I am passionate about Weymouth Post Office and I want to create a very good town centre branch. I really do care."

The staff will continue to work at Weymouth, many of which have worked at the branch for 20 or 30 years.

Opening hours will be Monday to Friday: 9am - 5.30pm; Saturday: 9am - 2.30pm
