Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce are welcoming a package of government grants designed to help businesses cope during the 3rd national lockdown.

The £4.6bn measures will help prop up the retail, hospitality and leisure industries.

Businesses will be able to claim up to £9,000 per property, something Weymouth and Portland Chamber and Commerce says it a good first step.

President Craig Oakes said:

“To certain businesses, it will be enough, and other businesses it won’t.

“I do think that putting an amount in now to start with now, with the next lockdown moving forward, is a welcome step to start with certainly.”

“If your business is able to continue to operate, then to a certain extent you don’t really feel the difference as much as a business who is needing to lockdown. I think generally the mood is fairly low that we’ve had to lockdown again.

He had this message for local businesses:

“Continue to hold fast, we do have options like vaccines now, which we didn’t have when we originally started this process.

“If we hold on in there, we have a much rosier outlook towards spring this year.

“Well done for what you’ve done, and hold in there.”
