Weymouth is gearing up to host plenty to events across the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.

The Town Council has provided grant funding for a number of activities by local community groups, as well as putting together a fireworks display and live music on the seafront tonight (Thursday 2nd June).

The free event tonight will kick off with the spectacular fireworks at 10.00pm.

That will follow the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon at Nothe Fort at 9.45pm - there'll also be a gun fire salute from there, which we'll be able to hear across Weymouth.

Fairground rides are also being set up along the seafront, and it'll also be the first of the summer bike nights on The Esplanade.

They include funding for:

Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth said:

“I’m delighted that we’re able to support so many community groups throughout the town in putting on events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – events including tea parties, art exhibitions and fun days will be taking place with the help of Weymouth Town Council grants.

“The local community will remember when the Queen herself visited Weymouth in 2009 which was a fantastic occasion for the town. I very much look forward to seeing our local communities in Weymouth coming together during the special bank holiday weekend."
