A new Willow tree is being planted in Radipole Park and Gardens in Weymouth today in honour of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Cllr Colin Huckle, Mayor of Weymouth will be planting the tree this morning.

The Mayor will be joined by local councillors and members of the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens.

Weymouth Town Council is organising the tree planting ceremony in support of the Queen’s Green Canopy project, an initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

The willow has been selected by the council’s parks team to help reintroduce the weeping willow walk following the natural decline of willow trees in the gardens over some years.

Cllr Colin Huckle, Mayor of Weymouth said:

“I’m delighted to be involved with this initiative which celebrates the Queen’s 70-year reign of our nation while also enhancing the environment for future generations. The event will be a poignant occasion, as Friday 11th March 2022 is the seventieth day of the year in which the Queen marks the seventieth anniversary of her accession.

“It’s also fantastic that this will help to reintroduce the Radipole Park Gardens weeping willow walk which has been enjoyed by many throughout the years.”
