A Weymouth man's been sentenced for importing an illegal stun gun.

The 36 year old's home was searched by Dorset Police in November last year, following information passed on by Border Force.

A number of weapons were seized and the man charged.

He's been sentenced at Weymouth Magistrates Court for possessing a weapon designed or adapted for the discharge of a thing without the authority of the Secretary of State; as well as importing a prohibited weapon, namely a stun gun.

The man's been handed a £120 fine and ordered to pay a surcharge of £48 and £85 in court costs.

Dorset Police have said:

"We will do all we can to take prohibited weapons off the streets and make Weymouth a safe place for residents and visitors."
