Weymouth holds Remembrance Day Parade today

Weymouth's Mayor, veterans and other dignitaries will be laying wreaths at the Cenotaph.

A special service of Remembrance will be held at Weymouth's cenotaph today.

The town's Mayor will lay a wreath at the cenotaph, accompanied by others including veterans, in honour of WWI and WWII's fallen heroes.

The Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Colin Huckle, said:

“As Mayor, it is a real privilege to be involved in the town’s Remembrance events which recognise the incredibly brave people who have fought in conflicts all over the world. These individual sacrifices must never be forgotten. This is especially poignant given Weymouth’s history in working closely with its Armed Forces community."

What's happening?

A traditional service will start at 10:50am followed by a short two-minute silence. This will be initiated by the firing of a cannon from .the beach.

The Weymouth Salvation Army bugler will perform the Last Post and Reveille.

Standards, veterans, cadets and youth organisations will lead a parade along the seafront, taking the salute. The parade will stop at the American Memorial where a short wreath laying service will take place.

Following the service and parade, an Armed Forces Covenant is due to be signed on behalf of the Weymouth Town Council. A signing ceremony will take place at 12.30pm.

Road closures will be in place between 10am and 12:30pm.

The Esplanade between William Street and King Street will be closed to traffic between 10m and 12pm.

The Esplanade will also be closed between King Street and King Statue between 12pm and 12:30pm.
