Weymouth has announced plans to start celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with a bang!

A free fireworks display will be on Thursday 2nd June organised by Weymouth Town Council.

The spectacular display will take place on Weymouth seafront at 10pm after a beacon lighting ceremony at the Nothe Fort. The beacon lighting at 9.45pm is part of a nationwide initiative which will see beacons simultaneously lit throughout the UK in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Nothe Fort Artillery will do a gun fire salute from the Nothe Fort North Terrace just prior to the beacon lighting which will be heard across the bay.

As part of the bank holiday weekend celebrations, there will also be fairground rides on the seafront and the Pavilion forecourt, and the evening will also coincide with the weekly Thursday night bike night evenings on the Esplanade.

The firework display for the Platinum Jubilee is Weymouth Town Council’s first of the year, with other displays lined up on August 1st, 15th (which will be low noise displays) and a further display on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August.

Cllr Ann Weaving, newly elected Mayor of Weymouth will be at the beacon lighting ceremony and watching the fireworks from the Nothe Fort on 2nd June.

Cllr Weaving said: “The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be a fantastic occasion and I can’t wait to see our community come together to celebrate it.

“The fireworks on Weymouth seafront are always extremely popular with local people and visitors and create a brilliant spectacle for all to enjoy. It will be a wonderful way to kick off the festivities on this special extended bank holiday weekend.”

Where possible, people are encouraged to walk or use public transport to get to and from these events.
