Local food producers and makers will be setting up their stalls on New Bond Street for the first time from 10am today, until 3pm.

It's after a very successful online poll about the possible return of the market.

Chris Wilson, from Weymouth Area Development Trust said:

"In October 2019 we sent a message out on social media, asking if people thought Weymouth should have a regular Farmers Market? The response was amazing! Over 10,500 people read it and we had over 2,000 direct positive responses. We took that as a resounding 'Yes!'"

The market will give local traders an outlet once a month, on the second Sunday of every month. It's hoped it will help encourage more people to shop in the town after the coronavirus lockdown.

Chris added:

"It started because we've got some really great traders in Dorset, and it started because there's not that many outlets for them to take part.

"Farmers Markets have been shown to help with regenerations in towns and bring people back in to the town centre.

"I love markets, every time I go on holiday I want to check out the local food market.

"It's going to be great to see people coming in and seeing some of the traders."

Social distancing measures and other coronavirus safety precautions will be in place.
