Weymouth to Dorchester train line undergoing maintenance
Services will be affected from today (Sunday 17th March) until Wednesday
The train line between Weymouth and Dorchester is to undergo 'essential maintenance', starting today (Sunday 17th March).
The Heart of Wessex tracks will be worked on until Wednesday (20th March), with an impact on services that would normally run along the route.
Great Western Railway services will terminate at Yeovil today (Sunday 17th) and then at Dorchester West, Monday to Wednesday (18th to 20th).
South Western trains won't run between Dorchester South and Weymouth, tomorrow to Wednesday (18th to 20th).
Replacement buses will run between Yeovil Pen Mill and Weymouth today, and then between Dorchester South and Weymouth, Monday to Wednesday.
There are also replacement buses between Wareham and Bournemouth today (Sunday 17th) for separate engineering works.
Jordan Welsby, GWR Station Manager, said:
“This improvement work forms part of an ongoing programme of maintenance, helping to ensure that we can continue to provide consistent and reliable services.
GWR and SWR will provide rail replacement services. However, these alternative travel arrangements will make journey times longer, so please check before you travel during these dates.”
Chris Bailey, Network Rail’s project manager, said:
“These works are essential for us to carry out as they will improve reliability of the railway for customers travelling in and around Dorchester and Weymouth.
“We’re grateful to customers and local residents living alongside the railway for their patience and understanding while we continue carrying out this important work.”
