A Weymouth Town Councillor’s been recognised for his work to help those in need during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Louie O’Leary helped to set up Littlemoor’s foodbank during the first lockdown. He also helped deliver prescriptions and did some dog-walking too for people.

Now, he’s been given an award by the South West Conservative Party conference.

Louie said:

“It was a great honour to be recognised. It was a bit of shock and it meant an awful lot. I was very happy that the party put me forward for it.”

But he says lots of people are still struggling, and the work’s still ongoing.

“A lot of people are still self-isolating, a lot more people are getting COVID now and having to self-isolate, so those people need their shopping and they need prescriptions collecting.

“Obviously there’s a lot of deprivation as a result of this, and tackling that will be incredibly important over the next years.

“That’s what I’m going to be focusing my attentions on.”
