Weymouth Italian restaurant's extended outdoor seating taken down
Bacaro took part in a two-week trial for outdoor seating on the Esplanade
A Weymouth Italian restaurant has taken down its outdoor seating after a decision by Weymouth Town Council
The benches outside Bacaro were only put up in the middle of June as part of a trial on the Esplanade.
But the seating has been short lived as Weymouth Town Council are now saying it won't continue with the scheme.
They say it's down to mixed reviews, comments from Dorset Council and its own Seafront Masterplan.
Cllr Gill Taylor, Chair of Weymouth Town Council’s Income Generation Group, said:
“Local Weymouth business Bacaro approached us about trialling an extended seating area on The Promenade, which has been operating over the past two weeks.
“Councillors on Weymouth Town Council’s Income Generation Group met on Monday 27th June to review feedback received during this useful trial. A mix of views were received from interested parties however due to comments received from Dorset Council, and the ongoing work to develop our emerging Seafront Masterplan, the scheme will not progress any further at this stage.
"We would like to thank Brett from Bacaro for all the work he has done on this and his cooperation during this trial.”
In a public post on their Facebook page, Bacaro said:
"In accordance with the council’s decision, we are saddened to announce the closure and removal of our promenade seating area as of the 30th June.
"Despite following all guidelines completely, and receiving multitudes of positive feedback regarding the area, the council failed to see its potential in making the esplanade a better place for residents and tourists alike. Our team have worked tirelessly over our trial period in attempt to make this clear, but our efforts have unfortunately been rejected."
