Weymouth College has unveiled two know centres of excellence to boost students aspirations.

The centres for engineering and construction bring the latest equipment for students to learn on.

It's all thanks to an over £1.5 million investment from Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership via a Government Local Growth Fund allocation.

It brings massive upgrades to the courses which bosses say was beginning to become outdated.

Nigel Evans, CEO of Weymouth College said:

"It's brilliant for students to have a 'WOW' experience so when they come in they think 'Blimey, am I really going to be allowed on these machines.

"A lot of our facilities in those areas were looking a little bit tired, and for example the motor vehicle... as I said we couldn't offer automotive technicians any expertise in electrical, hybrid, plugin, now we can do that and it's a similar story in construction and engineering."

Impact of the advances could be felt across South Dorset too as pupils are able to aspire for more.

Nigel added:

"It's really important in terms of social mobility in Weymouth and Portland, and generally in South Dorset that there's aspiration and some of that aspiration comes from 'Blimey, look at this equipment'."
