It's National Fish and Chips Day 2021!
A Weymouth chippy is taking the oppor-tuna-ty to celebrate
Today's your chance to show your local chippy a bit of appreciation for National Fish & Chip Day!
Weymouth's stores have seen unprecedented demand this week as visitors flock to the beach for half term.
Fish 'n' Fritz has been serving fresh fish and chips to the local community and visitors to Weymouth for over 24 years and they're asking customers to come together to celebrate Britain's best-loved fast food by tucking into a portion of sizzling fish and chips.
Paul Hay, the owner of Fish 'n' Fritz, said:
"We all agree nothing can beat a portion of steaming fresh white fish fried in hot, crispy batter, served with a pile of lip-smacking chips - the only debate is whether you top it with salt, vinegar, sauce, mushy peas or a pickled egg!
"It will never die, it's one of those foodstuffs so long as there's people like myself, my staff and other businesses alike up and down the country.
Paul added:
"It's been very busy, wehn you get half terms, bank holidays, things like that it does peak quite a bit.
"This is our commuity, this is what we do. People come from afar to visit their favourite seaside town and this is what we do, we feed the troops, we feed the masses once they've had fun and games on the beach for the day, or in the countryside in their caravans, their tents.
"But the volume of traffic coming therough both Weymouth and Portland this week has just been phenomenal."
What is Fish and Chip day?
In 2020, despite being in the midst of the pandemic, National Fish & Chip Day was one of the biggest awareness days of the year in the UK, with almost 50 million people hearing, seeing or reading something about it, so don't miss your chance to be part of it! Pop in on the day and join the celebration!
National Fish & Chip Day is about giving fish and chips the recognition it deserves and helping to secure its position as the nation's favourite dish. The event, which will take place on the first Friday in June every year, already has the backing of key players in the industry.
The national event is once again being championed by trade organisation, The National Edible Oil Distributors' Association, who represent packers and distributors of oils and fats in the UK.
NEODA President, Gary Lewis said:
"National Fish & Chip Day has become more popular each year and in 2021 we want it to be even bigger! It's a celebration of the stars who work hard to bring Brits their favourite traditional takeaway.
"We want to bring the whole industry together to celebrate and showcase the great British institution that is Fish and Chips."
