Weymouth Carnival's big come back is going to have to wait another year.

Organisers have decided to cancel the three day event planned for the 13-15 August due to the pandemic.

A spokesman for Weymouth Carnival told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset in a statement:

"The Weymouth Carnival committee unanimously voted that Weymouth Carnival 2021 will not be going ahead.

"Covid permitting, the committee are hoping to do some fundraising on the three dates that the 2021 carnival was supposed to happen on.

"The team look forward to planning a great event for 2022."

Weymouth Carnival was last put on in 2018.

The former group behind it collapsed due to a lack of funding and volunteers.

Now a new committee has been put together who are committed to bringing the event, which attracts thousands of people, back to Weymouth.
